President Donald Trump was caught on a hot mic Dec. 8 raging that the Senate’s blue-slip tradition is holding up his nominees, preventing him from delivering the results voters expected after his decisive 2024 victory.

After Trump’s candid words made the rounds in media circles, a clip resurfaced of Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley’s crash-out in July over his decision to keep the “sacred” blue slip precedent in place. It prompted Grassley to defend the Senate tradition once again in an X post Dec. 11.
