President Donald Trump has directed the U.S. Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on updating the 2020 U.S. Census. This move could significantly alter the U.S. political landscape ahead of the 2026 midterms, potentially harming Democrat-held congressional seats.

In a move most people knew was coming, Trump wants a new census based on actual U.S. citizens and not inflated by illegal immigration in this country. Still, for this to have any impact before the 2026 midterms, several things would have to go the Republicans’ way.
